Research on Nature in Photography

Tony Howell

When researching nature in photography I came across an English landscape photographer Tony Howell who has had 30 years experience in the business.
After looking through his work I get a sense of peace and calmness from the way he shoots and the beauty of nature really shines through.

This beauty is something I would really like to capture in my photographs.

I love the way the light shines through the trees in the photograph below and the way its casts the shadows on the field.

I would like to use natural light in a similar way in my photographs and also take some shots of the sky but still have the trees showing (like the photo below). This adds depth to the photo.

After seeing how Tony used light in his photographs I then went on to research how he shoots photos of nature at night. Below are some of my favourite shots which gives a different feel completely to the photos shot in the daylight. This is something that I would like to experiment with and take inspiration from.

What really stands out for me in Tony's images is his use of angles and camera positioning. This is something that I would like to take inspiration from in my own photographs.
